Austin Rutherford, 52, entered heaven on Christmas morning, after a brief illness. Family will greet friends between 5:30- 7:30 pm, Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at the home of Kim and Chuck Sheffield in Gray. Graveside services with Reverend Ron McClung officiating will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Bethesda Baptist Church in Union Point, Georgia.
Mr. Rutherford was born April 26, 1969, in Greensboro, Georgia and lived most of his life in Gray, Ga. He was the son of the late Wayne Rutherford and Charline Rutherford Plummer.
Austin graduated from Jones County High School in 1987. Austin enjoyed using his cell phone and the internet to communicate with family and friends. He would keep everyone informed of current happenings and weather conditions. He liked watching auto races on TV. Austin also enjoyed listening to the radio, where he became friends with the broadcasters and weather forecasters.
Being a resident of a small town, Austin had created a great network of people who were always eager to go the additional mile, including members of the Sheriff's Department, the Volunteer Rescue Department, caretakers, pastors, and several lifelong acquaintances. Many thanks to everyone who has taken the time to be there for him over the years and to his most recent friends at Lumber City Nursing and Rehab who were amazing.
Mr. Rutherford is survived by his brother, Boyce Rutherford (Kelli), sister, Kimberly Rutherford Sheffield (Chuck), brother, Gary Paul Plummer, his aunts Shirley Pierce Rainwater and Mary Pierce Parks (Larry), and several nieces and nephews.
