Donald Mackaravitz, age 73, passed away on Wednesday, January 27 at his home in Sylvania, Georgia. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, to the late Daniel Joseph and Frances Bell Mackaravitz. He was a U. S. Army veteran having served two tours in Vietnam. He worked at Bethlehem Steel in Pennsylvania for 13 years and then worked as a project manager in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Mr. Mackaravitz was a member of Buck Creek United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School and was a member of the choir.
He enjoyed fishing, going to flea markets and auctions, listening to music, and being around people.
Donald Mackaravitz was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Linda M. Hamm; his brother, Michael L. Mackaravitz; and his first wife, Connie.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Scott Mackaravitz; a daughter, Holly Panella; a brother, Daniel J. Mackaravitz (Annamae); two sisters, Diane M. Bannon and Beverly M. Recchiuti; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 7th, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Buck Creek UMC with Reverend Carroll Gay officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 PM in the church social hall.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wesley Sunday School Class, American Legion Post 116 and the VFW Honor Line.
The family asks that those attending please wear masks and observe social distancing.
