George David Edmunds "Big Papa"

George David Edmunds “Big Papa”, 92, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 29, 2024 surrounded by family and friends.

George served in the United States Army during the Korean War and then worked for Union Camp in Savannah, Georgia for 40 years. After retirement he spent his time gardening, fishing and visiting friends on his golf cart. He loved having lunch at Ms. Jeans daily. 

He is preceded in death by both of his wives, Ida Mae “Honey” Barnes and Rose Maines; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Austin; stepson, Hilton Myrick; mother, Anne Hollingsworth; father, D.B. Edmunds; siblings, Margaret Ann Futch, Bonnell Benton, Linda Faye Edmunds and Carlton Edmunds. 

Those left to cherish his memories include his son, Carl (Janet) Edmunds; daughter, Debbie (Ashley) Singleton; stepdaughter, Linda Gault; 7 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 4 step-great grandchildren; 11 step great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Deal Funeral Directors from 6PM – 8PM. 

The funeral service will be held Friday, May 3, 2024 at Deal Funeral Directors at 2 PM. Burial will follow at Lake Cemetery in Metter, GA.
