Jimmy D. Johnson (72) of Statesboro, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on October 14, 2021 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Savannah, Georgia on August 8, 1949 to Earnest T. and Annie Ruth Johnson. He grew up in Springfield, Georgia and graduated from Effingham County High School Class of 1967.
Jimmy served in the Air National Guard from October, 1967 to April 1974. He moved to Tallahassee, Florida in 1981 to work with his brother in the tire business and later started his own business, Johnson Distributing, Mobile Tool Distributor.
He loved drag racing and raced his 75 Chevrolet Camaro and later his 62 Chevy. He was a member of the Tallahassee Moose Lodge. He was an avid football fan, Georgia bulldog born and bred but also loved the Florida State Seminoles.
Jimmy retired in March of 2020 to Statesboro, Georgia. where he spent his time with his wife, children and grandchildren. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he loved God, his family and friends and his country.
His favorite past time was driving his golf cart around with his grandchildren. He exemplified the second commandment "Love thy neighbor as thyself " Matthew 22:39 and his neighbors became part of the family.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gary L. Johnson (Trilby).
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sue Collins Johnson; a son, Jamie Brown (Emily); his grandchildren, Abigail, Olivia, Lillie, Jason and Jackson and his daughter Cori Lynn Johnson. Also, survived by his nephew, Greg Johnson (Mary); niece, Donna Lewis (Larry); great niece, Ashley Johnson; great nephews, Matthew Johnson and Dylan Lewis; his mother-in-law, Faye Collins; his sisters-in-law, Sherri Litchfield (Danny), Sandra Rigdon (Joey), Sara Minder (Nick) a brother-in-law Scott Collins (Jennifer) and a number of other nieces and nephews.
Graveside Celebration of Life to be held Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Bulloch Memorial Gardens 22002 Hwy 80 E, Statesboro, Ga 30458 with Elder Jake Futch officiating.
