Lawrence “Larry” Alexander Long, Sr. left behind a legacy in this world on September 20, 2021. Dedicated to God and his family, those who knew him will remember him as a Godly man. Recently having celebrated his 80th birthday, Larry lived a full life spending his final days with visits from his loving family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife JoAnn, four children Larry (Julie) Long Jr., Barney (Sharmon) Long, David (Melissa) Long, and Shawn (Russ) New, 11 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Larry loved his wife of 60 years. His “steady always,” they remained devoted to each other through all of life’s adventures.
Larry served in the United States Air Force for 6 years before also serving in the Coast Guard for 4 years. Larry was a dutiful worker at Union Camp/International Paper for 40 years. After retirement, he spent his days enjoying the golf course.
Larry committed himself to serving his church. He was a faithful member of Radiant Life Assembly of God in Savannah, GA for many years before moving to Statesboro and joined Crossroads Community Church.
Visitation services will be held at Crossroads Community Church in Statesboro, GA on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 from 5-7 P.M.
The funeral will be held at Radiant Life Christian Fellowship in Savannah, GA on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at 1:00 PM with Reverend Cary Swanson and Reverend David Stanton officiating. A graveside will follow at Greenwich Cemetery in Savannah, GA with Reverend Wayne Swanson officiating.
Pallbearers will be Lawrence Long III, Caleb New, Nolan Long, Jake Sparks, Benjamin New, Judah New, Joshua Long and Brad Welch.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at Ogeechee Area Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Larry during this difficult time.
