Leo D. Hotchkiss , age 87, passed away Friday at The Gardens at Southern Manor surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Regency SouthernCare Hospice. He was a native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County and served in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956. Leo worked for Derst Baking Company for twenty-seven years and was employed with the Bulloch County Health Department for twelve years. After retiring from the Health Department Leo worked at Ellis Travel Trailers and as a funeral attendant with Hodges-Moore Funeral Home and later with Deal Funeral Directors. Leo was a longtime member of the Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Edna Hotchkiss, and his brother, James Ronald Hotchkiss.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Deal Hotchkiss; his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Tammy Hotchkiss, all of Statesboro; his daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Trace Spier of Ringgold, Ga.; four grandsons, Jared (Leah) Spier, Jake (Hannah) Spier, Austin Hotchkiss, and John Mark Spier; two great grandchildren, Hadassah and Elam Spier; his brother and sister-in-law, Foy and Gerry Hotchkiss; sister-in-law, Crystal Hotchkiss; several nieces and nephews; and his loving dog and companion, Bell.
Visitation will be held Monday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at Deal Funeral Directors.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Deal Funeral Directors with Elder Randy Waters officiating.
Burial will follow in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
The family would like extend their deepest appreciation to Ralph Cowart and the caregivers of The Southern Manor Group for their loving care given to Leo over these last few months.
