Margaret "Maggie" Lucille Shipes

January 1, 1970 — January 1, 1970

Margaret “Maggie” Lucille Shipes, 86,  of Statesboro passed away August 7, 2022, at home surrounded by her family, friends and her dog, Taco. Maggie was a member of Merrywood Baptist Church but also visited Clito Baptist Church.

Born in Terre Haute, Indiana on July 23, 1936 to Paul and Betty Ruth Thompson, Maggie graduated from State High School.  After graduation, she worked as a waitress at Cunningham’s Restaurant in Terre Haute and remained there for over 25 years. In 1980, she moved to Savannah, GA to be close to her long-time friend, Maxine Falls. In Savannah, Maggie found work at both the M & M Supermarket and Kroger. Later, she moved to Statesboro where she worked for McDonalds.

Maggie lived her life to the fullest, having many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed crocheting, working puzzles, cooking, and baking. Calling Bingo at Ryan’s and Papas Pizza was another fun activity. But her all-time favorite thing to do was listen to gospel music, especially Eternal Vision. A close second would be going to the pawn shops with her friends, Frances, Janice, Dot, Gracie, and Ms. Betty. And of course, she loved taking her 92-year-old companion of six years, Edwin Collins, with her every chance she got.

Maggie is survived by her children, Arvilla Norris, Connie Smith, Lori Busy (Norman), and Larry Kline (Jeni); stepdaughters, Kerry Kimble and Chris Beacham; adopted daughter, Stephanie Franklin; eleven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and many people who called her “Mom” and “Grandma”.

An outdoor memorial cookout will be held at a later date.

In  lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Eternal Vision Ministries.
